Iron Infusions

Why are Iron Infusions beneficial?

What is an Iron Infusion?

An Iron infusion is a procedure in which iron is delivered to your body intravenously, meaning into a vein through a needle. This method of delivering medication or supplementation is also known as an intravenous (IV) infusion.

Side Effects

It is recommended patients research about possible reactions, in particular about staining at the site of the infusion. It is important to be aware that there is a possibility of staining and this is often not listed as a possible side effect from the medication itself. The carboxymaltose product information notes a frequency of 1-10/1000.

Initial Consultation

It is common that most health professionals require an initial consultation to discuss this treatment option before arranging an Iron Infusion. Doctors in this location require a consultation even if you have had a consultation with another doctor elsewhere.

Fees

The fee can vary between doctors, but in general the average fee for the procedure is $180 with a Medicare rebate of $75 (you will require a consultation appointment prior as well).

It’s important to note that while iron infusions can be very beneficial for some people, they are not appropriate for everyone. Your healthcare provider will determine if an iron infusion is the right treatment for you based on your individual health needs and medical history.
